How BulkMeasure Calculates Quantities

The formulas, unit conversions, rounding and assumptions used by BulkMeasure.

Overview

BulkMeasure converts compatible inputs to canonical SI units, calculates area and volume, applies an optional explicit allowance, then converts the result for display. Weight is a separate density-dependent estimate.

Shapes

Rectangle: length × width. Circle: π × radius². Triangle: base × perpendicular height ÷ 2. Known and multiple areas are converted and totalled.

Volume and weight

Base volume = area × depth. Adjusted volume = base volume × (1 + allowance ÷ 100). Estimated weight = adjusted volume × user-supplied bulk density.

Rounding

Full precision is retained internally. Volume normally displays to two decimals, with extra precision for small non-zero results. Package quantities round up.
